Buddy Reading, Natural Disasters Research, Multiplication Ghosts, and Natural Resources Project!

How can we use natural resources responsibly?

The class worked in small groups to research different types of natural resources.

Students explore how humans rely on natural resources in every aspect of daily life.

They determine which resources are renewable and which are nonrenewable, and look at how they

influence a region’s economic activities.

After we are done researching, we will create a mini poster to

educate others about our natural resource!

Our reading lessons have been focusing on how to take notes for nonfiction text.

The class has been working hard at creating boxes/bullets to report important information about a given topic.

The class worked in teams to report about a natural disaster.

They had to find out the following information:

  • Causes and effects

  • How are they measured and predicted?

  • Prevention and safety

  • Where do they happen?

  • Famous ones?

We have been working hard on becoming experts with 2x2 multiplication problems.

Today, the kids had to prove that they could solve a 2x2 multiplication problem with accuracy.

Once they showed me the work and accurate answer, they could work on different math

challenges for the other ghosts.

Some kids were working on 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 3x4, and decimals!

Way to go, Cacioppo Crew!

On Wednesday, we had buddy time with Mrs. Johnson's class.

We enjoyed catching up with our buddy and reading with them!

Some students in the class took on the challenge of organizing and maintaining our classroom library!

We learned what to do after we are done with a book so they can help our library stay organized.

Our leader of the week shared a Minnie Mouse she made with her family!

Our leader of the week shared her poster so we can learn more about her!

Buddy Pumpkin Glyph, State Research, National Park Commercials, and More!

We love our Friday CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) Time.

We get to explore our passions as we wrap up our week of learning!

We used our research to create commercials to convince others to visit our National Park.
We will be posting these on our Seesaw blog so we can check out other commercials.
More info on how to access the blog for families will be coming soon!

As we researched, we really focused on learning how to take notes on nonfiction text.
We learned about many different text structures of nonfiction: cause/effect, problem/solution, chronological, description, and compare/contrast.

Our focus for the National Parks was a technique called boxes and bullets.
We are learning how to think of it as main idea and key details for a particular section.

Many used notecards to help us with our National Park commercials.

Officer Maldonado led an assembly discussing healthy choices and making safe choices as we begin
Red Ribbon Week this week!

We learned how to play a new math game called "Cover the Field."
Kids had to strategize to cover the board using different areas for rectangles.

We began sharing our state presentations.
Our goal was to include three places to visit in the state, as well as information on the region that it is located in and other cool facts! We still have 4 more to share this week.

We worked on completing our pumpkin glyph with our first grade buddy.

I found some cool activities for the kids to work on at a local consignment shop.
Yay for creators!

More state presentations...

Our class and Mrs. Johnson's class together with our pumpkins!

Our leader of the week is sharing his show and tell with the class.

He is also sharing his poster with everyone.
